The Waterfront Hotel

200 years ago a few good men sat down at the Waterfront and planned for the defense of their beloved city from the fiercest empire on the planet at that time. From here, their plans were finalized, the battle had begun, and their resolve was strong. Days passed, smoke cleared over Ft. McHenry, and they came to defeat the enemy and win the war. Today the hotel is gone, yet the walls remain. It has been renovated, and a pub is built in it's place. This bar has been where I consoled my worst pains, and celebrated my best accomplishments.

  1. Bars are always the best places to feel whatever you want to feel. I can relate, a lot. Some of my best friends are bar tenders I have once upon a time spilt my heart to... oh life.

  2. I like that most of this essay shows the cultural importance of this place. It is great to have a place to cheer yourself up or to go celebrate.

  3. I really enjoyed your post. I like how you effortlessly combine the cultural and personal significance of the bar, and your beginning and ending lines are true "clinchers." These sentences connected me to what I was reading and they really added your voice.

A few citations could have improved your blog. They would have reinforced the story you were telling. Overall, though, awesome post! It is definitely the most interesting one that I have read so far.

  4. I love how you gave the historical significance of the place all the while showing its significance towards you.

While giving the past description of the location was wonderful, I believe you could have added a more recent description in as well.

Thanks for this read! It was great!

  5. I like how you gave a short history introduction of the bar. This makes your post more meaningful. I also like the sentence "today the hotel is gone, yet the walls remain." However, I think if you could have citations it would have help emphasize your blog.

  7. Really nice post! I think the story behind the wall and history it comes with is very interesting. I would love to go and visit the wall one day and see it for myself.
The only thing I can think of is maybe adding a few citations to enforce your points a little but otherwise great job!

  9. Great use of historic reference and detail. I can tell this place is really important from what you tell us. The connection is also great. I think adding a couple citations from where you for the historic fact would make it stronger. Otherwise, nice job!

  12. Like many others have said earlier, I love the historical reference that you used to start the description. But your last sentence really stood out the most - worst pains and best accomplishments....that personal reference is something a reader can really connect with.

  13. This post was really enjoyable to read because it put me in the bar and it gave me historical significance as well. I too have had many nights celebrating as well as consoling myself in a bar.

  14. I like how you wrote a lot about the historical significance of the place that matters to you, but I would like to see more about why it does matter to you; possibly how you came to be acquainted with this bar.

  16. I think the transformation of all of this place over time is the coolest part of your blog. It very clearly showed the historical significance and I liked that you tied the end back to why it matters to you. I agree with the comment above me though, I think that a citation or a link would be a great addition to this blog post!
